Vietnam plans to install a Tsunami Early Warning System that will cover the coastal areas, more populated islands, and 13 cities and provinces nationwide, which are most at risk of being hit by a tsunami and high tidal waves.
The target areas include the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and the southern provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
In addition to building of posts in localities linked to the Tsunami Early Warning System, there will also be a tsunami information network run by the Global Physics Institute; Central Steering Committees; and local disaster management centres, set up by local authorities and residents.
The tsunami information network will ensure that a tsunami warning reaches the people and area affected at the shortest possible time. While the Global Physics Institute will serve as an exclusive monitoring agency responsible for transmitting tsunami warnings, besides supervising and analysing tsunami threats in Vietnam.
The Tsunami Early Warning System will begin construction in 2012 and is expected to be complete by 2016.
All coastal areas of Vietnam are at risk of being hit by a tsunami and high tidal waves, particularly along the coast line between the central provinces of Quang Binh and Binh Thuan.

Regarding regional and international issues, the host and the guest stressed that the recent positive developments of Latin American left-wing movements have made it easier for revolutionary forces in their struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress.
The ongoing financial crises, economic downturns and social instability in several countries as well as more complex global issues such as poverty, disease outbreak, climate change and damage to the environment make it necessary for socialist values to lead the way to achieve sustainable development for people, they said.
They both confirmed the need to step up cooperation and mutual support at international forums that both countries are members of, especially the United Nations.
In today’s world, the special relationship between the Vietnamese and Cuban peoples has become a symbol of the era and is an invaluable asset that needs to be protected, preserved and handed down to the future generations.
