The giant Buddha statue located on the peak of the Phat Tich Mountain in Bac Ninh Province was inaugurated on the evening of September 25.
The Buddha statue is 27 metres high, made of stone and weighs 3,000 tonnes. It took nearly 3 years to complete the project.
Before making this statue, workers did not use any explosives to cut the 2,500 cubic metres of stone from the mountains in Thanh Hoa Province. They did it all with their hands.
According to the Head of Phat Tich pagoda, it’s the largest stone Buddha statue in Southeast Asia. The statue was shaped in accordance with the Amitabha Buddha statue which is a national precious object and was made of stone during the Ly dynasty.
Phat Tich pagoda in Bac Ninh Province is a cultural and historical relic of Vietnam. It contains cultural values with typical features of the fine arts of the Ly dynasty.
Nowadays, in addition to the stone Amitabha Buddha statue, the pagoda has also kept statues of sacred animals such as lions, elephants, horses, buffaloes or rhinoceros which have been left since the Ly dynasty.Travel to Vietnam
