Butch O'Neal is an ex-homicide cop. He’s lived hard. He’s been accepted by the Brothers and lives with them, given a privilege no other human has had. But Butch wants more. He wants to fight with the Black Dagger Brotherhood as they wage war against the Lessers to save their race. He’s also lost his heart to Marissa, a stunning vampire from the other side of the tracks. Butch wants her, but may not be able to have her. He will do just about anything to be a Brother….

I just finished it and I like Butch more after this pass. I still don't "feel" Marissa as much as I'd like to, but JR has a tendancy to write wishy washy female character, IMHO

I agree with ya, I really didn't like Butch all that much in the beginning, but after reading his story I started liking him more. Then the more I read the other books, the more I liked him...he is just to damn sexy! Marissa has never been one of my favorite characters.

Just finished reading Butch and Marissa's story. It was good but not as good as Rhage's and Z's story. I knew Butch would somehow become a Brother and I like him more now after reading his story. Marissa is just ok imo, she kept flipping back and forth trying to decide if she wanted Butch or not after crying the blues about no one wanting her for 300 years. Got a little old after a while. Glad when they finally got mated. I liked the storyline of how she has a half way house for abused vamps and their children though. Gave Marissa a purpose.
Maybe I'm dense but I'm still not sure who Butch's real father is. Is it the Omega who Odell had the affair with or a surgeon at the hospital where Odell worked (Havers???) or did the Omega impersonate a doctor?? Was Odell coherent with her story?? I hope it's not Havers because then Marissa would be Butch's aunt and they are now mated??? I guess I'm missing something here.
Can anyone answer the question for me?? Who is Butch's real father???? It's ok if the answer is a spoiler.

Butch's book wasn't my fave either....but you do get good background info and a few things get setup. Marissa....well, I could take her or leave her.
The FATHER issue, we aren't sure. His mother did have an affair with a doctor when she was trapped at the hospital during a snow storm. His Dad new about it and that's why he treated Butch so badly. He hated him.
His Mom has occasionally mentioned that Butch had another father, but no one really believes her due to the Alzhiemers. When Butch & Marissa visit she recognizes what they are and relaizes that Butch is now like his real Dad. It makes her very happy.
Now, there is a bit of a spoiler here....In V's book you meet a character called Manny, he's a doctor. Manny is too young to be Butch's Dad....but....could they be realted....here's a hint...the BDB book coming out after Lover Mine is about Phayne & Manny  You haven't gotten to Phayne yet.
There is a large amount of discussion about this on the BDB fan forum. No one has a clear answer and the WARDen is keeping very quiet abou it.
We have to wait.....DAMN!!!!!

Cougar, thanks for the info. I just didn't want to miss something I should have picked up.
About 100 pages into V's story and I already like it. Can't wait to finish this one.
